Granada - so excited!

I am so excited! Tomorrow Jans mum, my mum, my mums friend Marion and I are all off to Granada in Spain to be absolutely fabulous - no pressure there then!

This trip arose out of a moments hissy fit when Jan disappeared to Germany for what seemed like ever with his dad to test the mettle of the Mercedes on the Autobahn! They achieved warp factor 9 or 148 mph to you and I! Anyway... as Jan had disappeared for the best part of a week, his mum and I said it must be our turn! So we decided to take a mini-break to Spain and invited my mum too...

I have been to Granada only once before but the trip has stayed etched into my memory. The last time I was there I was holidaying with three gay men - I have no idea how that happened either! I was friends with a guy from college called Trevor and there was his partner - his name escapes me plus another of their friends... anyway I digress...

We originally went out to Valencia for the Las Fallas festival (click here for more information) in March (I can't remember what year...) - Click here to find out how it all started

Las Fallas is an amazing festival please visit the links to find out more but if you like fireworks, bonfires, street parties and parades you have to visit - I promise you, you will not be disappointed!

There is so much to see and do... from the Fallera processions, to viewing the ninots, fantastic firework displays - especially the main one from the bottom of the dried up river bed that runs through Valencia to the March of the Moors - breathtaking stuff! Valencia is an amazing place even when there are no festivals happening!

Anyway, when we went on the is trip to Valencia, we had a few days to
kill before the festival, so we decided to hire a car and drive to Gibraltar, stopping off at Granada and Marbella along the way... We arrived late in Granada after several hours drive and crashed at the B&B that Trevor had arranged for us. The next day we went for a walk around the town - we just missed visiting the Cathedral (please note there are certain times of the day when it is not open to the public - check before you go) and decided instead to visit the Alhambra, which is an old moorish fortress perched on the bluff above Granada and home to the legendary Generalife gardens!

The Alahambra and Generalife were so beautiful that I vowed one day that I would go back - and tomorrow is the big day!

I AM SO EXCITED!

I will tell you more about our mini-break when I come back, plus what the first Granada trip was like and all the other good stuff I have been up to!

Take care
